I remember San Francisco

Ok, I tried to live in San Francisco once when I just graduated from college. I found that I missed NY terribly. Now that I have lived in NYC for 13 years, I sometimes get this romantic vision of San Francisco, like it's callling me to try to live there again. My best friend moved to Berkeley, so I would have a support system, but hey, it was hard to be involved in TV and live in SF. I guess I could work for Current, or maybe I would begin a career in the healing arts.
That was meant to make everyone laugh.
Did you ever wake up one day and think to yourself, I should be living in a different city, working in a different field?
I would want to keep the girlfriend - maybe she will get some job in Northern California and I will be "forced" to live out there- hey, I can dream.

It's funny you'd mention SF. I recently had an email exchange with my friend Dwayne (hey HEY hey!) who has lived in San Francisco for about 8 years now. He wsa making fun of me because I live in Vermont and we have a million feet of snow, hand-in-hand with weeks of sub zero temperatures & he asked me, "Are you ready to come back to California yet?" I actually thought about it for a few seconds and Michael Stipe's lyrics popped in my head ("I remember redwood trees, lemons, limes and tangerines") and I remembered the manageable weather, beautiful architecture, great food and insanely good bookstores. Then I snapped myself back to reality when I remembered 1) when someone threw an open pack of Starburst candy at me in a bodega 2) crashing my bike on Market Street during my tenure as a bike messenger and 3) the MIME that YELLED at me on Fisherman's Wharf.

Instead of mentioning those things to my friend Dwayne, I just responded with, "No."

Damn, I used to be a bike messenger. Now I just worry about global warming and apply to Ivy League lesbian schools.

I need to lie down.

Yes, the bi-coastal dilemma...
I don't know what the answer is...

Yeah. I think of that REM song, too. It makes me want to go to LA. LA is much better. Don't argue with me.
